Get your tickets for Merely Players

Fresh off their successful production of “Shrek” this year, Merely Players is now selling tickets for their 2016-17 season.

The show lineup includes a found-space drama “Collected Stories”; a holiday collaboration with 20 Moons Dance Company, “A Christmas Carol”; Yasmina Reza’s award-winning play “God of Carnage”; and “The Secret Garden,” the annual youth-adult musical.

Individuals may purchase season ticket packages, a flex pass or a package of their own design through Merely Players’ website: www.merelyplayers.us.

Distillery hosts Saturday show

Mancos Valley Distillery will feature The Lindells with Otis Davis at 8 p.m. Saturday, with doors opening at 5 p.m. A husband and wife duo, The Lindells’ sound has been described as “panoramic indie folk-rock.” They have played barn dances, opera houses, concert halls and festivals, including the main stage at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.

Larry Otis and Stan Davis make up the band Otis Davis. Larry is a northern California native who was “heavily influenced by the sights and sounds of the Summer of Love in San Francisco.” Stan Davis hails from Colorado with the “essence of the American West in his blood.”

Concerts benefit nonprofits

The Rochester Hotel’s Community Concerts in the Secret Garden will benefit the nonprofit community, as well as promote Durango’s music scene this summer. The concerts will feature a different band/artist and nonprofit combination on Wednesday evenings, from Wednesday-Aug. 31. The first concert will be from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday featuring Lost Souls, with proceeds going to Riverhouse Children’s Center. There is a $10 cover charge (cash preferred), a cash bar and small plates from local food vendors will be available for purchase.

‘Outlaw’ country music arrives

“Old school, outlaw country for a new generation of country fans” comes to Alpine Bank-Community Concert Hall free Concerts @ the Park series at Durango’s Buckley Park from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nashville-based artist Cale Tyson will take the stage.

Tyson, from Fort Worth, Texas, where he first heard the classic country sounds that have inspired and enriched his “gentle, melancholy, and undeniably whiskey-soaked sound.” He’s been featured as one of PolicyMic’s “9 Real Country Music Stars of Our Generation,” and identified by Rolling Stone as one of the “10 New Country Artists You Need To Know.”

The Concerts @ the Park series requires no tickets and offers a family-friendly environment. Concertgoers are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets, as seating will not be provided at Buckley Park. Fired Up Pizzeria and Schlotzsky’s will offer food for sale at the park, but picnics are also invited.
