Man arrested in two burglaries

Sheriff’s Office helped by residents
Labarthe

A La Plata County resident was arrested Saturday in connection with two burglaries that took place the previous week.

Bruce Kevin Labarthe, 48, was taken into custody after La Plata County Sheriff’s Office deputies served a search warrant at a residence on County Road 318, northeast of Bondad on Florida Mesa. They recovered stolen items from both burglaries and took Labarthe into custody.

The first burglary took place Jan. 17 on Cow Canyon Road, north of County Road 310, said Dan Bender, spokesman for the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office. Several items were stolen, including a mountain bike and camping gear.

The second burglary occurred Jan. 20 in the same area, he said. A television, computer and other items were stolen in that burglary.

“Several alert residents in the area were instrumental in helping the Sheriff’s Office in this case,” Bender said.

Labarthe was also wanted on two outstanding warrants, for theft and possession of Schedule 1 drugs.

On Monday, Labarthe was being held at the La Plata County jail Monday on $25,000 bond for second-degree burglary, a Class 3 felony, as well as the two previous warrants.
