Camino lanes reopen after pole repairs

A crew from La Plata Electric Association inspects a light pole that was struck by a car in Town Plaza on Camino del Rio that threatened to bring down a power line. Northbound traffic on Camino del Rio was diverted while repairs were made.

The Durango Police Department on Monday afternoon closed the northbound lanes on Camino del Rio at Ninth Street.

The cause, according to the emergency services scanner, was a hanging power line, apparently in the 1000 block. Traffic was being diverted onto Ninth Street, either across the Ninth Street Bridge to Roosa Avenue or east on Ninth Street to Main Avenue.

The road was closed about 3:20 p.m. and had reopened as of 4:20 p.m., so it was closed almost exactly an hour, said Lt. Ray Shupe with the DPD.

“Camino del Rio can be quite a mess with something like this,” he said.
