Animas High looking for new head of school

Animas High School, located near the base of Twin Buttes, is searching for someone to fill the position of head of school and executive director.

Animas High School board members Tuesday created a search committee to lead an organizational change that will roll the head of school and executive director positions into one starting in the fall.

Board member Ann Laffaye will head the committee comprised of 14 people, including two board members, two non-instructional staff, two parents, two students, two teachers, two community members and two administrators.

In consideration of the relatively short time to hire for fall, the committee will update school board members Friday by email on a job description and hiring time line.

A tentative date for filling the position is April 1.

Board members Tuesday discussed at length whether to hire a consultant to help write a job description.

In 2013, head of school Jake Lauer, who has been with the charter school since 2009, took on the additional duty of executive director.

School board members earlier this month voted to combine the two positions. No one knew at the meeting Tuesday if Lauer would apply for the post. He was not present.
