A $10 million budget. Sixteen stations. A payroll of 74, with 14 part-time reservists and eight seasonal wildland firefighters. A career volunteer force of 86.

The Durango Fire Protection District has a lot of moving parts, and it’s Finance Director Eric Baker’s job to track all of them.

Baker and the district were awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fourth year recently. The certificate is awarded through the Government Finance Officers Association, and represents the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, the association said in a news release.

The award is for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2013, the final year of the Durango Fire & Rescue Authority.

The district’s financial records “demonstrate a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the comprehensive annual financial report,” the impartial panel that awarded the certificate said.

“He does an amazing job,” DFPD Chief Dan Noonan said.
