Fire crews contained a trash bin fire that broke out about 4:40 p.m. Thursday in Santa Rita Park.
Karola Hanks said smoldering trash fires are not uncommon this time of year.
“This is the time of year, we have Dumpster fires on a regular basis,” she said. “There’s nothing exciting about them. They’re just Dumpster fires.”
Trash fires often occur because “people dispose of their trash at one of the community event Dumpsters. Or they’ll do the deal where there’s some construction going on, and dispose of the trash in those dumpsters.”
Crews will contact her if the smoldering trash fire in Santa Rita Park reignites or requires further thwarting.
