Storm expected to move out of area

Rain/snow mix brings about ½ inch of moisture
A pedestrian hurries Friday morning along Main Avenue near Eighth Street as overnight rain turned to snow. Durango is under a winter weather advisory until noon Saturday.

As Steampunk Snowdown 2015 winds down, so will the current snowstorm, according to the National Weather Service. Revelers should enjoy better weather Saturday afternoon and evening.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until noon Saturday.

“We’re seeing mostly a rain/snow mix,” said John Kyle, data acquisition program manager for the Grand Junction office of the weather service, about what to expect Saturday morning.

The official monitoring station for the Durango area is at the Durango-La Plata County Airport, which was reporting 0.45 of an inch of moisture from the storm as of 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Only a trace of snow was measured at the airport, with the bulk of the precipitation falling as rain, Kyle said.

Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort and Wolf Creek Ski Area both reported 4 inches of snow as of Friday afternoon, with snow still falling heavily.

All passes in the area were reporting snow, icy spots and snow-packed conditions Friday night, with more snow expected overnight.
