Exodus could cause SJBHD to implode

The choice to share my opinion is not a difficult one; so I, too, will affirm there are and have been serious problems involving the administration of the San Juan Basin Health Department.

The “cat” issue is resolved could easily be interpreted as an unsatisfactory compromise; finished, but in no way “solved.” From playground bully to corporate one, too many people believe they have the “right” to behave however they wish, without personal or social consequence, using their station of authority and veil of superiority. Then, when their behavior becomes public, they use their entrenched attitude to declare the situation resolved with their full expectation the conflict will just go away, as quietly as possible. (Quietly, on so many levels.)

Then, The Durango Herald informed us (Jan. 18) that 27 percent of SJBHD left voluntarily in 2014. Wow! Cat deal gone bad, and employee exodus! What to do? Begin anew and attempt to stop the hemorrhage of exiting staff members to save organizational integrity – or turn a blind eye to passive victims who are considered to be most malleable and subject to manipulation?

When individuals stand up against these so-called bullies and decide to exorcise their “or else” plan, it results in good people choosing to leave a poorly managed organization, and consequently, that organization will only get worse. Then, more good people will leave; and finally, the organization will eventually implode under the weight of malignancy, and the whole community will know the truth!

Those who leave have their skills, merit and morality to take with them. After all, these serve as our personal currency we choose to exchange for an hourly wage, and it goes where we go! I applaud all who have taken their “currency” somewhere else!

I’ll share a quote from Elizabeth Gilbert: In Eat, Pray, Love, she states, “The only thing more unthinkable than leaving was staying, the only thing more impossible than staying was leaving.”

It was almost impossible, but it was the right decision for me.
