Warriors work Demons

Another league game, another setback for the Durango Demons.

The Durango High School girls basketball team played the first of two consecutive games in Grand Junction on Friday night, losing 52-39 at Grand Junction Central.

“It has been really tough for us,” DHS head coach Tim Fitzpatrick said of the Southwestern League schedule. “We will keep at it.”

It was the third consecutive loss for the Demons (12-5, 1-4 SWL).

Sophomore guard Katrina Chandler scored a game-high 16 points for DHS. Stephanie Bayse added seven points for the Demons. Senior guard Katie Wiegert scored six points in her first game back since suffering a concussion against Montezuma-Cortez on Jan. 27.

Cassidy Bryant and D’Kota Brodie led the Warriors (7-13, 1-4 SWL) with 14 points each.

DHS had beat Grand Junction Central 55-42 on Jan. 24 at home during the opening weekend of league play. DHS was 11-2 at the time.

The Demons will turn around and face the Grand Junction Tigers at noon Saturday. The Tigers beat the Demons 55-39 in Durango on Jan. 23.
