Raccoon causes power outage

This unfortunate raccoon lost its life after tangling with electrical equipment in Bodo Industrial Park. It knocked out power to 450 customers Thursday morning.

A raccoon interfered with equipment at the La Plata Electric Association substation in Bodo Park early today, knocking out power to 450 customers in the La Posta Road area, south of Durango.

The temerity of the raccoon cost the animal its life.

Power was cut at 5:28 a.m. and back on for all customers at 7:02 a.m.

LPEA spokeswoman Indiana Reed said outages at this time of year at the Bodo Park substation often are the result of curious raccoons.

An LPEA crew is repairing damage caused by the raccoon, Reed said.
