Pot-shop robbery suspect charged

Logan Griffith faces two counts of felony robbery

A Gem Village man suspected of robbing a Durango medical marijuana dispensary formally was charged Thursday in 6th Judicial District Court.

Logan Griffith, 19, faces two counts of felony robbery, including one for using a deadly weapon and another for taking a controlled substance.

He faces anything from 10 to 32 years in prison for the first charge and 16 to 48 years for the second charge.

Griffith is suspected of entering Rocky Mountain High Dispensary with a handgun and a knife. He wore a ski mask and dark-colored hoodie, and used duct tape and zip ties to bind two employees. He made off with about $3,000 and a significant amount of marijuana, according to police and arrest affidavits.

He was arrested by Durango police less than an hour later near Holly Avenue and 32nd Street, less than a mile from the marijuana shop.

His father, Joe Griffith, 44, is suspected of assisting with the heist.

Police said Joe Griffith stood inside the business and posed as a customer. As part of the ruse, he, too, was bound by duct tape and zip ties, police said. He hung around to talk to police after the robbery. Believing he was a victim, police drove him past his son to see if he could identify him as the suspect, according to an affidavit. The father told police the man looked too tall and too young to be the suspect. He did not mention that the man was his son, according to court records.
