As someone who might be considered Chinese-American, I feel compelled to speak out in favor of leaving the dragon’s head in place. Not only does it commemorate an important Chinese holiday, it represents a globalization of Durango’s presence on the world’s stage.
Just think, if the Durango Area Tourism Office were to have a picture of the “Arc dragon” go viral, we’re talking about billions of people seeing how Sino-friendly we are out here in the Wild, Wild West! I don’t claim to represent other people of Chinese ancestry, nor do I claim to be an art critic (Although isn’t everyone?), but I do know what I like, and dragons are where it’s at for me!
