FLC scores 1st point, wraps up 1st track season

The first women’s track and field season in Fort Lewis College history is in the books.

The Skyhawks completed their inaugural season of indoor track and field at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship at Western State Colorado University in Gunnison. FLC scored only one point in the meet, but it was a historic first point in program history.

The point came in the distance medley relay with the team of Emily Bryant, Stephanie Dexter, Erin Renner and Madeigh Winsor finishing eighth with a time of 13 minutes, 26.94 seconds.

“Scoring for the team in the DMR is special and a milestone for the women,” FLC head coach Mark Dutro said in a news release.

Two FLC individuals finished in 11th place in their respective events, with Alex Cox jumping 10.79 meters in the triple jump and Bryant completing the 1-mile run in 5:35.45. Cox also took 17th in the long jump with a distance of 4.42 meters.

Winsor added a 13th-place finish in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:27.75. Renner took 17th in the 3,000-meter in 11:28.28.

FLC had three more women complete the 3,000-meter finals, with Kristen Ascencio taking 19th in 11:36.46, Rebecca Bramley 24th in 11:43.66 and Chole Boehlke 31st in 12:14.08.

Another FLC relay team, the 4x400 team of Julia Boyd-Helm, Bryant, Cox and Winsor, took ninth in 4:26.92.

“Expectations for the conference meet is to continue to improve, reach personal goals and compete as best we can,” Dutro said.

Adams State won the women’s team championship, and Western State claimed the men’s title.

The Skyhawks will turn their attention to their first outdoor track and field season, with the first meet scheduled March 20 in Grand Junction at the Colordo Mesa University Courtyard Marriott Invitational.
