Montoyas recovering from tragic Colo. 140 accident

La Plata County residents released from the hospital
A fatal accident Saturday at Mile Marker 18 on Colorado Highway 140 that claimed the life of Durangoan Kolby Webb spared La Plata County residents Davin and Theresa Montoya. “We’re fine,” said Davin Montoya, who expressed remorse for Webb and his family. “It’s really tragic.”

La Plata County residents Davin and Theresa Montoya are recovering at home after the couple was involved in a fatal car accident Saturday that killed Durango resident Kolby Webb on Colorado Highway 140.

“We’re fine,” said Davin Montoya on Sunday, one day after he and his wife were treated for their injuries at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

“Theresa has a broken knee cap, a sore wrist and a sore knee – but considering what we went through, we’re fine,” he said.

Montoya said he emerged from the crash unharmed.

“We’re thankful we came out of it. It could have been a lot more serious for us. We feel really bad for the family of the young man who was killed (Saturday). It’s a shame that it happened. We know what they’re going through – it’s really tragic,” he said. “We were told he was 23, and had his whole life ahead of him.”

On Saturday, Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Chad Martin told The Durango Herald that the crash occurred after Webb, who was driving northbound on 140, attempted to pass a truck.

“But as he was passing, another vehicle was coming head-on, so he darted back into the northbound lane. Then, he basically lost control and overcorrected, putting his car into a broadside lane. He hit the truck – Davin Montoya’s – that had been coming from the opposite direction.”

Haley “Bay” Webb, Webb’s wife, did not wish to comment.
