Police seeking dart shooters

Two people suffered minor injuries
Dispatchers received several calls Wednesday night from people around Durango who had been hit by a blow-dart gun.

The Durango Police Department is investigating a series of blow-dart attacks that took place one night last week in several locations around Durango.

“The darts were the kind that you shoot from a blow-dart gun,” DPD Lt. Ray Shupe said. “They have a long needle on the end of them and are made for hunting small reptiles and insects.”

Two different people, both tourists, were struck Wednesday night by the darts, which were fired from a vehicle, but both refused treatment for what Shupe called minor injuries. One of the attacks took place in the 1000 block of Main Avenue.

Several different patrol cars were engaged in searching for the suspect vehicle.

Shupe said the suspects are all juveniles, and investigators are still trying to identify all of them.

The crime is considered a second-degree assault, which is a Class 4 felony, he said.
