Junction Creek Road to be closed in April

Junction Creek Road (National Forest System Road 171) will be closed to all public use from April 6 to April 21.

The closure will allow the Forest Service to stabilize the road from the end of County Road 204 to the Junction Creek Campground.

A natural pine emulsion will be applied to the surface of the gravel roadbed in multiple layers, the agency said. Each layer will require a separate curing process. During this time, the road surface will be very sticky until cured. This requires closing the road to all travel, including hiking, biking and horseback riding.

The annual motorized closure on Junction Creek Road will remain in effect until May 1 as usual, the agency said.

All trails and areas adjacent to the road will remain open. Although the Junction Creek Trailhead below will remain open for those wishing to access the Colorado Trail, visitors should expect heavy construction traffic near the parking lot during the project.

The closure area will be marked with signs until the project is complete.
