Vote yes on 1-A for better quality of life

It seems these days that so much of our paychecks go toward taxes that we really don’t understand much less see the tangible benefits from paying. Not so with Question 1-A!

This is actually a tax I can get my mind around. This is a tax that will help fund our neighborhood parks, the development of hard-surface trail systems, improvements to Chapman Hill and the rec center, multi-modal connectivity improvements and river habitat protection. I want my money to go toward improvement of our quality of life, our health and our property values.

This one-half cent sales and use tax (which we already are paying, by the way) just puts off the sunset of the tax until the year 2039 instead of 2019). It supports all of the above mentioned projects.

According to a number of studies, city residents pay about one-third of the sales tax, county residents pay another third, and visitors pay the final third. It’s a tremendous return on investment. Please vote yes on 1-A and get ready to see Durango become an even more bicycle-hiking-fishing-skating-dog walking-rafting-friendly place to live.
