School of the West announces April classes

The much-anticipated Mancos School of the West this month opened for classes that have proven to be very popular.

Students have been lining up to learn painting, weaving, fabric-dyeing and how to write their life stories.

“We filled up four classes,” said School of the West organizer Brian Killigrew. “It went really well.”

Most of the classes were taught in the artists’ own studios, bringing to life the mission of the school to connect students and artists in an area rich with creativity.

The April lineup of classes offers a little bit of something for everyone, Killigrew said, noting that he particularly is excited about an introduction to the American Indian flute being taught by David Nighteagle.

“He is one of the best Native American flute players in the world,” Killigrew said. “He is very well-known and has lots of CDs out.”
