Construction to begin at E. 2nd Ave. and 15th St.

The return of warm weather will allow Kennebec Construction to resume making improvements at the intersection of East Second Avenue and 15th Street on Monday.

Work is being done with a $403,000 grant from the Federal Transit Administration and $100,000 from the city of Durango.

Crews will begin at the north end of East Second Avenue to replace the sidewalk north of 14th Street. There will be no traffic restrictions at this point.

The project also includes improvements at the Animas River Trail in Rotary Park. Construction also will include safety, sidewalk and bikeway improvements on 15th Street.

Ramps, via the Americans with Disabilities Act, at all intersections and improved driveway access also will be constructed. The project will provide sidewalk connections from the Animas River Trail to the north side of 15th Street and East Second Avenue, 14th Street, the south side of 15th Street and East Second Avenue.

Construction is expected to last all summer and cause periodic lane closures.

This is the final leg of the project that closed 15th Street last fall.

Questions about the project’s timing and street closures should be directed to George Thompson at 749-6486.
