Man working on car run over

Flight For Life called for transport

A man working on his vehicle early Friday evening near Needles Store was run over by it.

“We were informed at about 5:40 p.m.,” said Trooper Josh Lewis with the Colorado State Patrol. “It’s not considered a crash because he was working on it when he was run over. He was flighted out.”

Needles Store is in the 48000 block of U.S. Highway 550 about 2 miles south of Purgatory.

Sgt. Jeff Blevans with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office knew a little more.

“Apparently, he has to go under the car to fiddle with the starter to get it going, and he didn’t have it in park,” he said.

While Flight For Life was called, Blevans thinks it may have been partly precautionary. The extent of the man’s injuries was unknown.

“My deputy said he was talking and conscious,” Blevans said. “So while he definitely experienced some trauma, we think he’s going to be OK.”

Blevans did not know if the man was a local resident.
