Aspen soars past Durango girls lacrosse 15-4

A step up in competition was an eye-opening experience for the Durango High School girls lacrosse team.

Payton Randle had three goals and Hannah Looman scored another, but it wasn’t enough for the Demons as they fell 15-4 at Aspen on Saturday.

“It was fun. Our goalie got a lot more action,” DHS head coach Katie deButts said. “I would say it was a learning experience.”

Dyno Shilaikis made 15 saves for the Demons.

“We played strong defense and were smart until the end. Aspen is just really fast,” deButts said.

Two of Randle’s goals came on free-position shots.

Aspen (5-1, 3-1 Mountain League) was the first true test of the year for DHS (2-1, 1-1 Mountain League) after a 15-1 win at Telluride on Friday and an 18-4 win against Steamboat Springs on March 21.

DHS next will play at 4 p.m. Friday against Grand Junction and Saturday against Fruita Monument, both home games.
