Mean Moose bully Ignacio girls soccer

Pine River Rivalry up next for the Bobcats

The Mean Moose lived up to their billing Tuesday.

Alamosa pounded the Ignacio High School girls soccer team 10-0 on Tuesday in Ignacio.

“They’re a good team with good players – just great play,” IHS head coach Oscar Cosio said of Alamosa. “They’ve got some good forwards. They made good passes and good shots.

Despite the lack of goals, Cosio credited freshman Katelyn Garcia with an “outstanding game” in the center midfield.

Kristen Velzsquez-Baker made 15 saves in goal for IHS.

“We’re young. We have eight freshmen and 85 to 90 percent of the girls have never played before,” Cosio said. “It’s a struggle to compete with teams that have been established, obviously. Ignacio never gives up, though. That’s what we’ve got going for us. We just need to get the talent and the experience.”

The Pine River Rivalry is next for the Bobcats at 4 p.m. Friday in Bayfield against the Wolverines.
