Nucla baseball dominates Ignacio 18-5

Bobcats fall in six innings

Nucla made itself right at home at Ignacio on Tuesday.

The Mustangs (2-3) dominated a non-conference game against the Ignacio High School Bobcats (2-7, 0-1 2A District 2) in an 18-5 game that lasted six innings Tuesday.

The Bobcats fought off a run-rule defeat with a rally in the fifth inning but couldn’t match it in the sixth inning to extend the game a full seven innings.

Zach Weinreich took the loss on the mound for IHS. He lasted 1 2/3 innings and gave up nine runs on five hits, five walks and one hit batter. He struck out one.

Juanito Medina relived Weinreich and pitched 1 1/3 innings. He gave up four runs on four hits, two walks and one hit batter.

Austin McCaw closed the game out on the mound for IHS.

He was strong in three innings of work. Though he gave up five runs on seven hits, he didn’t walk a batter. He plunked one and struck out three.

Offensively, Tucker Ward led IHS with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. He had a double, one run batted in and scored twice.

Iaasic Peña was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Weinreich was 1-for-2 with an RBI-double.

IHS will return to the diamond at 1 p.m. Saturday at home against Dove Creek.
