Ignacio baseball falls to Bloomfield JV

Things are starting to get rough for the Ignacio High School baseball team.

Ignacio lost 4-2 to Bloomfield’s junior varsity Friday in Bloomfield.

Bloomfield scored two runs in the second inning and two in the fourth.

That’s when IHS (2-8) started to mount a comeback.

Senior Iaasic Peña led off the fifth inning with a single then advanced to third on an Austin McCaw single. Bloomfield’s left fielder misplayed the ball, allowing Peña to score.

Down 4-1 in the top of the seventh inning, Tyler Beebe and Tucker Ward walked to put two on. Two IHS outs followed before Andrew Martinez walked to load the bases. Then Rain Rosa walked to force Ignacio’s second run across the plate.

Rosa finished 1-for-1 with a double and three walks, including Ignacio’s only run batted in.

Beebe went 2-for-3 and scored once.

Peña threw all six innings for IHS, allowing six hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out three.

IHS will return to league play at 1 p.m. Saturday at home against Dove Creek.
