Payton Randle leads Durango girls lacrosse past Summit on senior day

Cold weather couldn’t slow down the hot shooting of Payton Randle.

The Durango High School senior scored five goals Saturday, as the Demons’ girls lacrosse team downed Summit 10-8 in a Mountain League contest.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Demons and gave Randle and the other seniors an uplifting win on senior day.

DHS junior Shilo Gillen scored three more goals, and fellow junior Shaelee Hawkins added another.

Sophomore Hannah Looman also scored once, with an assist coming from her twin sister Jessica.

The Demons (3-3, 2-2 ML) have two regular-season games remaining on the schedule for the postseason will begin. They travel to Eagle Valley and Battle Mountain for games Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Fruita Monument still leads the ML at 12-1 and 4-0 in league, with Aspen, Grand Junction and Eagle Valley close behind with only one league loss each.
