Hunter Hall leads Durango boys lacrosse past Telluride

Hunter Hall gave his teammates the ball, and they found ways to score all day.

Hall, a Durango High School senior, won 14-of-15 faceoffs and scooped up 15 groundballs to help the Demons’ boys lacrosse team dominate possession in a 12-2 win at Telluride on Tuesday.

“He had a huge day for us,” DHS head coach John Robinette said of Hall.

DHS (7-4, 4-4 Mountain League) scored only once in the first quarter, but sophomore goalie Andrew Brown kept the team ahead with five saves. He made 11 overall in the game against the Miners (1-7, 0-7 ML)

“It was one of his best games all year,” Robinette said of Brown.

DHS woke up in the second quarter and took a 5-1 lead into halftime before opening up the lead in the second half.

Senior Trevor Gabbard led the team in scoring with five goals. Senior Jack Marshall added three more goals, and Kyle Robinette and Jeb Steigelman each had two goals.

Sophomore Jake Beekman had two assists, and Sam Aber and TJ Rifkin each had one assist.

“We’re starting to hit our stride. Everyone is healthy, we have a lot of depth now, and it’s all coming together,” coach Robinette said. “Telluride usually plays us tough, so it was nice to break it open in the second half.”

DHS has a tough challenge ahead this weekend to end the regular season with a trip to Colorado Springs to play Palmer (5-6) and Air Academy (6-2).
