Most Hermosa phones restored

Matt Edwards, a data technician with CenturyLink, works to restore 84 channels that carry land-line phones and Internet links in Hermosa. Equipment malfunctioned Saturday night.

A small portion of the Hermosa area remained without CenturyLink land-line telephone connections Wednesday afternoon.

“There’s still a little area that’s giving them trouble,” said Sara Spaulding, a CenturyLink spokeswoman in Denver, of the technicians who have been working since Sunday to restore service.

CenturyLink customers lost service late Saturday. A junction box on Mead Lane, which runs between County Road 203 and U.S. Highway 550, housed the equipment that failed.

CenturyLink doesn’t disclose the geographical extent of an outage, the specific problem or the number of clients affected, Spaulding said.

County Road 202 was one focal point of the outage, but only CenturyLink customers were affected. Residents with landlines of other companies didn’t lose their connection.

Spaulding said Tuesday that it appeared all CenturyLink customers could have service by that evening, but the estimate was overly optimistic.
