Ignacio High School girls soccer loses at Center with short-handed team

IHS girls soccer loses with 10 from the start

Kristean Velasquez-Baker did everything she could to keep a shorthanded Bobcats side in the game Thursday.

Velasquez-Baker made 29 saves in a 3-0 loss for the Ignacio High School girls soccer team at Center.

IHS (0-8, 0-7 2A Region 4) gave up all three Center (5-6-1, 4-4-1) goals in the first 15 minutes of the game before locking down from there despite playing most of the game with 10 players.

The Bobcats traveled with 11 players, enough for one full team without substitutes, but had a player get injured early on in the game, forcing IHS to play a girls down.

“We played awesome down a girl again,” said IHS head coach Oscar Cosio, whose team has played with 10 players the majority of the last two games.

IHS will stay on the road to play Alamosa at 4 p.m. Friday.
