Palmer boys lacrosse terrorizes Durango

DHS lacrosse falls to 5A opponent

Down 5-0 in the first quarter against a Class 5A team on the road, the Durango High School boys lacrosse team could have folded.

The Demons didn’t go away, though, showing fight in a 14-5 loss at Palmer on Friday in Colorado Springs.

DHS (7-5) outscored the Terrors 2-1 in the second quarter and played Palmer (8-6) even in the third quarter.

“We’re underdogs going in,” DHS head coach John Robinette said. “We could have just turned it off, but these guys rallied.”

Trevor Gabbard led the way for DHS with two goals and an assist.

Kyle Robinette won 8-of-11 faceoffs and grabbed seven ground balls.

Jake Beekman, Jack Marshall and Tanner Smith all scored one goal each.

“We played really hard against a good opponent – 5A school,” coach Robinette said. “We’re seeing our program keep improving. The kids made a real heck of an effort.”

The road trip to Colorado Springs won’t get any easier Saturday for DHS. The Demons will play No. 5 Air Academy at 11 a.m.

“Again, we’re going to be underdogs,” coach Robinette said. “It’s a quick turnaround. We’re going to come out and give it everything we’ve got.”
