Alamosa Mean Moose pepper Ignacio girls soccer goal

Mean Moose handle short-handed Bobcats, 10-0

Not much remained in the Ignacio High School girls soccer team’s tank Friday, playing without substitutes for the second consecutive game.

Alamosa beat the Bobcats 10-0 in Alamosa after IHS lost 3-0 at Center on Thursday.

Senior goalkeeper Kristean Velasquez-Baker provided another riveting performance in net for the Bobcats. She made 28 saves after stopping 29 in her previous game.

“She’s been amazing,” IHS head coach Oscar Cosio said.

Tayleur Hillis found the back of the net four times for the Mean Moose, and Katelyn Gallegos scored a hat trick. Overall, five Mean Moose scored.

The Bobcats struggled with a short bench like they have for the entire season.

“They’re a good team, but if we play them with a full squad, it’s a different game,” Cosio said. “Not taking anything away from Alamosa – they’re fighting for the league title.”

IHS has been fighting for goals all year and been fighting an uphill battle at that.

“I’m proud of my girls, the ones that have been sticking with us through these hard times,” Cosio said. “Playing two games back-to-back with no subs is not easy for anybody.”
