Day 2 of the Aztec B&B Invitational

The second day of Aztec’s B&B Invitational treated the Bayfield High School track team better than the first.

BHS had four champions Saturday, improving on a pair of firsts Friday.

Brian Mashak blazed to a first-place finish in the boys 100-meter dash, taking the title in 11.35 seconds.

Jessica Cusick added the girls 1,600-meter title to her 800-meter championship from Friday, winning the mile in 5 minutes, 35.71 seconds.

Aubry Brown improved on his second-place discus finish, taking first in the shot put at 50 feet, 2 inches.

Jessie Roukema cleared 5-2 in the girls high jump for the victory.

Also in Saturday’s finals, Maddy Foutz took seventh in the girls 200-meter dash at 28.02 seconds.

The Wolverines’ girls 4x100-meter relay team of Morgan Allred, Amber Johnson, Amy Roach and Roukema took fourth in 52.72 seconds.

Emily Bauer, Courtney Bayles, Jade Sanders and Foutz ran to a fifth-place finish in the girls 4x200-meter relay in 1:54.9.

Mashak also was second in the boys 200-meter dash in 23.03 seconds.

Gabe Kaufmann took fifth in the boys 400-meter dash in 53.25 seconds.

Alex Knight finished third in the boys 800-meter run in 2:06.9.

Brady Field and Carl Heide finished fifth and sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.52 and 16.85 seconds, respectively. Fields also made the boys 300-meter hurdles final, taking fourth in 42.14 seconds.

The Wolverines’ boys 4x100-meter team of Samuel Kundrick, Kaufmann, Conner Kennedy and Mashak took fifth in 44.68 seconds. Their 4x200-meter team of Fields, Kaufmann, Kennedy and Mashak was third in 1:33.19. Cash Snooks, Ethan Tate, Heide and Fields combined for fourth in the boys 4x400-meter relay, finishing in 3:44.91.

Michael Voss vaulted to second in the boys pole vault at 13-03.

Durango High School

Brett Rowland carried the Demons’ flag in the running finals.

She took sixth in the girls 100-meter hurdles in 17.65 seconds and eighth in the girls 300-meter hurdles in 50.92 seconds.

Rowland also was fourth in the girls high jump, winning in a jump off at 4-06.

Ignacio High School

Mike Perez finished second in the boys 400-meter dash, his signature event, in 51.82 seconds.

The Bobcats’ boys 4x100-meter relay team of Blaine Mickey, Lorenzo Peña, Perez and Tyler Riepel was eighth in 47.92 seconds.

Riepel was eighth in the boys pole vault at 10-03.

Demons find pole position

Justin Marcum took his dominating pole vault show on the road Friday.

The Durango High School senior won the Coronado Classic at 13 feet, 6 inches, a foot-and-a-half shy of his school-record leap from earlier this season.

Teammate Gabe Gilleland lost a jump-off for third, finishing fourth at 12-00.

Matthew McClain took eighth at 10-06 for DHS.

In the girls pole vault, Jessica Lee was second at 8-06, and Shaylan Garrett took fifth at 7-06 after losing a jump-off.
