Manhunt triggers Park Elementary School lockout

Suspect remains at large

The short-lived lockout Friday at Park Elementary School stemmed from a police search at the End-O-Day Motel, 350 East Eighth Ave., for Sean Christopher Ludwigsen, who is wanted by the Colorado Department of Corrections for a parole violation on a burglary charge.

The lockout lasted about 15 minutes. In a lockout, exterior school doors are locked, but activities continue inside. The lockout lasted from about 11:40 to 11:55 a.m.

In a lockdown, however, activities cease, and everyone takes cover.

Initially, miscommunication resulted in a lockout at Durango High School because of a confusion with the Days End motel on Main Avenue near the high school.

Police didn’t find Ludwigsen at the motel.

Ludwigsen remains at large, but authorities believe he is in the Durango area. Ludwigsen is described by police as Hispanic, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 175 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. He has many tattoos.

Ludwigsen is considered dangerous with violent tendencies and should not be approached.

Anyone with information may call Durango/La Plata Crime Stoppers, 24 hours a day at 247-1112 or log onto www.DurangoLaPlataCrimeStoppers.org. A name is not needed, and a cash reward is possible.
