Open house planned for north Main Avenue

Ideas for bike, pedestrian changes welcomed from you
The city is looking for ideas to make north Main Avenue more walkable. City officials want to hear your solutions at an open-house meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Carver Brewing Co.

Do you fear for your life crossing north Main Avenue?

The city is looking to hear about the biggest problems along the avenue and some possible solutions at a Tuesday open-house meeting.

Getting feedback from the community is one of the first steps in designing a new mobility plan for the corridor from 14th Street to Animas View Drive.

The Sonoran Institute recently selected Durango to receive professional help to redesign the avenue to make it more bike- and pedestrian-friendly.

Alta Planning + Design will be doing the mobility analysis, and it will design new options for the area based on public comment.

A mobility plan, which also will incorporate more public transit, will be completed by mid-July.

This plan is the first in a larger visioning process for the area.

The consultants are planning an interactive presentation with different stations and maps, said Tim Walsworth, executive director of the Business Improvement District.

“We’re going to come up with some potentially really good ideas,” he said.

The BID represents the businesses along north Main and is one of the stakeholders in the process.

The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Carver Brewing Co. at 1022 Main Ave.
