Park Elementary School has second lockout within 2 weeks

The second lockout at Park Elementary School in less than two weeks occurred Tuesday when Durango police searched near the school for the man who, on April 29, led law officers on a vehicle chase to Lemon Reservoir and partway back before he was captured.

Police were looking for Roger Brassard, who is free on bail, police Lt. Ray Shupe said. He didn’t go into detail on reasons for the search. The lockout Tuesday lasted less than five minutes, ending at 3:02 p.m.

The only inconvenience, said Durango School District spokeswoman Julie Popp, was that it coincided with the arrival of parents to pick up children, who get out at 3 p.m.

A lockout was established at Park on April 24 when police were looking for Sean Christopher Ludwigsen, wanted for a parole violation, at the nearby End-O-Day Motel.

In a lockout, exterior doors are locked to prevent entry but activities continue inside. In a lockdown, all interior activities cease, and everyone takes cover.
