LPEA leaders to speak at annual meeting

The top leaders of La Plata Electric Association will address the cooperative’s financial performance over the past year, the challenges it faces and the state of the industry as a whole at the association’s annual meeting May 16 in Pagosa Springs.

Michael Rendon, LPEA board chairman, executive director Michael Dreyspring and Barry Spear, the board’s legal counsel, are scheduled to speak. Rendon and Dreyspring will note that LPEA’s first community solar garden built in 2014 was news then and will continue to be. Rendon also will talk about efforts to bring more solar projects to Archuleta County.

Results of the election to fill four seats on the 12-member board will be announced. One director from each of LPEA’s four districts stands for election annually.

Board delegates to Tri-State Generation and Transmission (Joe Wheeling) and to the Colorado Rural Electric Association (Jeff Berman) will address the assembly. Bruce Keuning, past president of the LPEA Round Up Foundation, also will talk.

The Round Up Foundation oversees the expenditure of money accrued from LPEA customers rounding up the amount of their bills to the next highest dollar.

Members will be able to question the speakers during a Q&A.

The May 16 meeting will be the last opportunity to deliver an election ballot. Otherwise, mailed ballots have to reach the La Plata County election office by May 15. The business meeting begins at 10 a.m.

LPEA members who register at the annual meeting will receive a $5 credit on their electric bill and be eligible for door prizes.

The meeting will be at Pagosa Springs High School, 800 South Eighth St. Golf carts will be available for people who have difficulty walking.
