Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge to resume service

A small rockslide took out a section of track late Wednesday or early Thursday about 14 miles south of Silverton. Train service to Silverton was suspended Thursday and Friday, but full service will resume Saturday.

All aboard!

A Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train will roll out of Durango at 8:45 a.m. Saturday headed for Silverton.

A stretch of track 14 miles south of Silverton, damaged by falling boulders, has been repaired, General Manager Paul Schranck said Friday.

The break, discovered by a railroad patrol early Thursday, forced the cancellation of outings to Silverton on Thursday and Friday. Trips to the Cascade Wye were substituted.

The company runs only one train a day at this time of year.

Landslides have periodically buried the track in the canyon section of the 50-mile run.
