Hotchkiss pitcher Cesar Gonzalez made sure his team would be one of the two in Class 2A District 2 claiming state tournament berths.
He struck out 10 Ignacio High School baseball players in a 14-0 Bulldogs victory in the tournament’s semifinals Thursday in Delta.
The Bobcats only managed one hit on a Tucker Ward single in the fourth inning.
Hotchkiss (18-2) scored runs in bunches, putting up two in the first inning, eight in the third and four in the fourth.
Juanito Medina took the loss for IHS after giving up eight runs in 2 2/3 innings on six hits and four walks.
Ward pitched Ignacio’s quarterfinal game against Meeker, leading IHS (6-13) to a win.
He threw seven innings, allowing two runs with two outs in the seventh.
Ward struck out 11 batters.
Meeker pitchers walked six Bobcats in the game.
