Durango track registers 17 top-10s at St. Vrain Invitational

DHS picks up 17 top-10 finishes in Longmont

The Demons proved they belong with some of the best athletes in Colorado on Saturday at the St. Vrain Invitational in Longmont.

The Durango High School track team put six athletes on the podium amidst 17 top-10 finishes.

Breanna Hawmann and David Moenning tied for Durango’s best finish in second.

Hawmann threw the shot put 35 feet, 5 inches, and Moenning ran the boys 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 25.88 seconds.

Benjamin Lachelt took third in the boys 3,200-meter run in 9:52.75.

His teammate Gordon Gianniny was close behind him in seventh, finishing in 9:55.54.

Gabe Gilleland tied for third in the high jump at 5-10, and Josh Hobson tied for sixth in the same event at 5-08.5.

Hobson also finished third in the boys triple jump at 41-05.75.

Justin Marcum took third in the boys pole vault at 13-05, a foot and a half shy of his season best.

Gilleland vaulted 12-05 to take sixth.

Durango’s boys 4x800-meter relay took fifth in 8:22.41.

Shannon Maloney took sixth in the girls 800-meter run in 2:25.88.

Miranda Gallegos finished sixth in the girls 100-meter dash in 13.02.

The Demons’ girls 4x800-meter relay took sixth in 10:12.48, and their 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter teams both were ninth in 53.37 and 3:41.54, respectively.

Gallegos also took 10th in the girls long jump at 16-01.

Next weekend, DHS will bring a legion of Demons to the CHSAA Class 4A state championships in Lakewood.
