Sen. Ellen Roberts is a person of integrity

I am an independent voter. I am independent because I often find politicians and their supporters from the left and the right to be more interested in scoring political points than in governing effectively. I am more interested in practical solutions to the many problems we face and, therefore, tend to vote for problem-solvers rather than political parties.

Recently, there have been letters and stories in the Herald insinuating that state Sen. Ellen Roberts’ recent voting record reflects her interest in pursuing higher office. I have known Ellen for almost 20 years. I do not always agree with her positions. But of this I am sure: She takes positions because she believes in them and because she believes that this is the right course for the people of Colorado.

She is a person of integrity. (A rare characteristic among politicians.) She is also a person of faith. (And, yes, one can be a person of faith without being an extremist.) She has a strong sense of morality and will always do what she believes is the right thing to do.

So, disagree with her if you must, but please do not question her character. I only wish that all of our elected officials were of the same character.
