Young marijuana-shop robber pleads guilty to avoid prison

Logan Griffith, 20, sentenced to Youthful Offender System

A Gem Village man pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated robbery and second-degree assault on a peace officer in connection with the Jan. 31 robbery at the Rocky Mountain High Dispensary.

Logan Griffith, 20, is due back in the courtroom of 6th Judicial District Judge Jeffrey Wilson on July 2 for sentencing. It appears that Griffith, who was 19 the night of the robbery, will be sentenced to the Youthful Offender System operated by the Department of Corrections instead of state prison.

Griffith will undergo an evaluation by state authorities to determine if he qualifies for the youth program.

Griffith’s father, Joe Griffith, is suspected of taking part with his son in the robbery. He is due before Wilson on July 2 with an answer to an offer from the 6th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities say Joe Griffith posed as a customer at the marijuana dispensary, while Logan, armed with a handgun and wearing a hoodie and ski mask, tied up his father and two clerks before making off with $3,000 in cash and a substantial amount of marijuana.

The younger Griffith was arrested a few blocks away from the dispensary at 48 East Animas Road (County Road 250).
