Troopers on alert for distracted drivers

Agency steps up patrols through Friday
Texting, emailing or chatting on a cellphone while driving often leads to distracted driving. The Colorado State Patrol will be looking for distracted driving through Friday night.

The Colorado State Patrol is on the lookout for drivers texting and driving with distractions.

Through Friday night, additional patrols will be on the roads looking for distracted driving behaviors, the State Patrol officials said.

Drivers in Colorado are prohibited from texting while driving. Minors younger than 18 may not use a telephone while driving.

The agency’s 2015 Distracted Driving campaign is funded by a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation. The State Patrol previously carried out distracted driving patrols March 20 to 22.

Drivers will also see rotating sign boards across the state saying, “DROP THE DISTRACTIONS.”
