Events this week include parade, symposium

Article Last Updated; Tuesday, December 02, 2008  8:20AM
El Centro de Muchos Colores Hispano Resource Center at Fort Lewis College plans a parade, cultural festivities and more for this week.

Las Posadas, a holiday procession, complete with the Holy Family on a donkey, will move across campus from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday. El Centro will then host a potluck in Reed Library's headquarters. The process is also sponsored by the Unity Project of La Plata County.

The fourth annual Latino College Day will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The group will welcome more than 100 area high school students to campus for a day of lectures, campus tours and lunch. The hope is to inspire them to attend FLC. This event is sponsored by the Ballantine Family Fund.

A free cultural symposium, titled "A Call to Reflection, Unity and Action: Our Responsibility to Mother Earth" is also scheduled for Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Community Concert Hall. Three speakers will celebrate International Human Rights Day and the Day of the Virgin de Guadalupe.
