Heart Safe La Plata announces classes
To celebrate National CPR Awareness Week, Heart Safe La Plata will offer a CPR and automated external defibrillator class to the community at a discount price of $10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Durango Fire & Rescue Authority Station No. 1, 142 Sheppard Drive.
The class will cover adult CPR and the AED. Participants will earn a two-year CPR certification. It is limited to 40 students.
CPR PRO for health-care providers or first responders will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. June 11 at the station. This is professional-level emergency cardiac care for adult and pediatric emergencies, including bag-valve mask. The cost is $50 and includes a book and two-year certification.

Resources available to quit chewing tobacco
MyLastDip.com, a Web site designed for young people, is free to any smokeless tobacco user between the ages of 14 and 25 who wants to quit. Killthecan.org also is designed to help people quit using smokeless tobacco.

Red Cross seeking volunteers to teach
The Southwest Colorado chap-ter of the American Red Cross is looking for volunteers interested in teaching community disaster preparedness classes.
The Red Cross will train participants and provide them with the tools necessary to teach local residents how to prepare for emergency situations that might occur in the area.
