McInnis files to run for governor

Says it is time to restore 'basic fiscal discipline'

Herald Staff Report Republican Scott McInnis filed papers Wednesday to create a campaign committee and begin fundraising for a 2010 bid to be governor of Colorado.

"Our challenge is to demonstrate the vision and leadership to move Colorado forward, and the experience and skills to take the common-sense steps we must take to create jobs, jump start our economy and restore basic fiscal discipline," McInnis said in a news  release.

He said his first campaign contribution of $100 came from Harold Piper, a small businessman from Rifle. Piper has been the first contributor to each of McInnis' campaigns, including his successful runs for the Colorado House of Representatives and for U.S. House of Representatives.

McInnis, 56, is a graduate of Fort Lewis College. He and his wife, Lori, currently live in Grand Junction.

McInnis served in the Colorado Legislature from 1983 to 1993, eventually rising to House Majority Leader. He served as Colorado's 3rd District representative for six terms, from 1994 to 2005. McInnis did not run for re-election in 2004.
