Sgt. Ben Stuever of the Colorado State Patrol investigates the scene Thursday afternoon. Patricia Jacquez, 26, of Farmington was pronounced dead after she was ejected from her car, which had strayed from the road and went off an embankment.
A single-car rollover killed a 26-year-old Farmington woman Thursday afternoon on Colorado Highway 140, about one mile north of the New Mexico border.
A second accident occurred at the scene when a tractor-trailer was flagged down in the northbound lane and then was rear-ended by another semitrailer owned by Stock Trans.
No one was injured in the semitrailer accident.
Patricia Jacquez, 26, was ejected after her southbound Ford coupe drifted off a steep embankment and rolled several times at mile marker 1.4 about 1:30 p.m., said Trooper Jonathan Silver of the Colorado State Patrol, who responded to the call.
Silver said Jacquez was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The way the tracks were running off the right side indicated a gradual drive-off. Either she fell asleep or she was distracted in the vehicle, and drove off the road gradually," he said.
Jacquez was not wearing a seat belt, Silver said.
