Eleanor Cecelia Jones

Former Oxford resident Eleanor Cecelia Jones died at her home in Cherry Valley, Calif., on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009. She was 86.

Mrs. Jones was born to George and Jennie Grochowski in Sioux City, Iowa, on April 13, 1923.

On June 19, 1948, she married Kenneth John Jones in Los Angeles.

The Joneses lived in Oxford from 1968 to 1980. They owned Liquor House in Durango.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth Jones, of Cherry Valley; sons Kent Jones of Farmington, Jeff Jones of Fruita and Mitch Jones of Lakewood; daughters Susan Corkern of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Carol Cadman of Glendora, Calif., and Katherine Redwine of Lake Forest, Calif.; sisters Helen Authier of Sioux City, Iowa, and Josephine Wyatt of Parker; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at St. Joseph and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Colton, Calif. A rosary will be recited before the Mass.

Burial will take place at 11:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.
