Eric Christopher Gomez

Durango resident Eric Christopher Gomez died from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in Durango on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009. He was 37.

Mr. Gomez was born to Dennis and Gloria Gomez in Durango on Jan. 12, 1972. He grew up in Durango and attended local schools.

Mr. Gomez was an electrician and worked on the construction of a number of hotels and casinos in Las Vegas. He later returned to Durango and worked in the gas and oil industry. Most recently, he worked for Pyramid Instrumentation and Electric Corp.

Mr. Gomez enjoyed playing the guitar.

"He was well-known as a friend to all with a big heart and a ready laugh and smile," his family said. "He was an excellent father who was all about his kids." Mr. Gomez was an avid motorcyclist. He wore a goatee and sometimes sported a Mohawk.

Mr. Gomez is survived by his son, Preston Ross Gomez, of Bayfield; daughter, Peyton Glory Gomez, of Bayfield; brother, Denny Gomez, of Saginaw, Texas; sister, Lori Ann Struve, of Las Vegas; four nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cremation will occur.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, also at Sacred Heart. The Rev. Antonio Flores will be the celebrant. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery.
