Janet L. Sower Vaughn

Former Bayfield resident Janet L. Sower Vaughn died of progressive supranuclear palsy, a brain disease, Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. She was 67.

Mrs. Vaughn was born to Cecil and Gertrude Sower on Nov. 30, 1942, in Bayfield. She grew up in Bayfield and graduated from Bayfield High School in 1960.

In May 1960, she married Kenneth Vaughn in the gym at BHS. The couple spent the bulk of their life together in Farmington.

Mrs. Vaughn worked in a doctor's office in Farmington from 1970 to the mid-1990s.

The Vaughns were members of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1747. Mrs. Vaughn was also a member of two sororities. She enjoyed playing cards and playing the piano.

She spent a lot of time following her children to football and basketball games. Christmas was her favorite time of year.

Mrs. Vaughn is survived by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth Vaughn, of Farmington; daughter, Cheryl Bailey, of Aztec; sons Wayne Vaughn of Farmington and Mike Vaughn of Flora Vista, N.M.; brothers Donald Sower, Jim Sower and Vernon Sower, all of Bayfield; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.`` A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 5, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Flora Vista, 21 County Road 3500.
