Erma Brown, a Durango native and longtime resident, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, two days after her 93rd birthday, after suffering a stroke.

Mrs. Brown lived in the Durango area until May 2008 when she moved to Chandler, Ariz., to be closer to her granddaughter and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brown was born Erma Elizabeth Witt on Sept. 4, 1916, to Julies and Anna Witt in Oxford. She attended St. Columba School and graduated high school in 1933.

She married Henry Brown in 1937, and they had one daughter, Juleyann.

She enjoyed her sewing club and watching her five great-grandchildren grow up. Just as she lost her daughter she got a second great-granddaughter to watch grow.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter.

Erma is survived by her two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Columba Church.
