I opened the Herald (Oct. 25) to my favorite page, letters to the editor, and found another opinion about creationism vs. science. I really couldn't figure out what the writer had in mind. As I was reading, an old familiar song happened to be playing in the background: "Let the mystery be" by Iris DeMent.
That little folk song pretty much sums it up. Everybody has an opinion about creation; no one really knows how it all ended up this way. Why not just let the mystery be? The basic tenant of all science is the Scientific Method, as defined by a Princeton Web site as "a method of investigation involving observation and theory to test scientific hypotheses." For public education, we owe our kids the best possible scientific explanation. If you disagree, talk it over with your kids and explain your beliefs. The bottom line here is, you believe what you want; I'll believe what I want.
